Welcome back

ROOM  1  NEWSLETTER  FOR  TERM  4,  2015.

Dear Parents/ Caregivers,

Welcome back everyone. What great weather for the school holidays. I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable time. We welcome Miss Kloppers, a student teacher, to our class for the first 4 weeks of the term.

Term 4 is traditionally a busy term and this year appears to be as busy as ever. As well as our class programme, Room 1 and 2 produce a Christmas Musical for you in the last week of term.

Our focus for Religious Education will be the HOLY SPIRIT. This will be followed by ADVENT as we lead up to the Holy Season of Christmas.

Athletics is taking place in all classes this term as well as continuing with Kiwisport. PMP is finished for 2014 and again, we say thank you to those parents who helped us out each week.

This term our school-wide focus is OUR PLACE and classes will be involved with Technology. Room 1 and 2 will begin the term with making an effort to create a special area somewhere in the playground- Do watch out for it!

We will be focusing our learning on the reading and writing of Instructional texts. We will read and follow instructions, and also create our own procedures for things we have made.

As is our tradition, we will attend the A&P Show in November and we will send more details soon to those who offered to help us on the trip. Thanks to the Parents and Friends for subsidizing this trip/ bus. Please return the slip below as soon as possible to help with our planning of this all-day event.

Room 1 Newsletter for Term 3

Dear Parents/ Caregivers,

Welcome back to Term 3 when, hopefully, we are heading into warmer Spring weather. It has sure been COLD!!

The God strand is our focus in Religious Education.

To start the term, we will be scientists who ask and answer questions. The students have already identified topics of interest to them and they will work in interest groups from within Rooms 1 and 2.

In the second half of the term, we will be learning about “Sexuality”. We will begin this topic with a 3 day visit from “Life Education”. Watch the school newsletter for information on this programme which includes a parent information meeting.

Our English focus is Report writing when we will write about some of our discoveries. Later in the term we will each be learning a poem of choice to recite individually to Room 2. More information will follow as the students will need to practice at home.

We will continue this term with PMP beginning Week 2. Thank you to those adults who have generously offered their time each week to make this programme possible. I am sure that you hear lots about this programme from the children as it is a real favourite with them.

REMEMBER to watch the school newsletter for other upcoming events- St Anne’s Feast Day on Friday at 9.00; Kapahaka Festival; Mission Fair.

Well done to those who have been working on Reading Eggs. You are doing so well.

If you have any questions or can add to our learning, please call in to see me. Please comment on our blog as it encourages us to keep trying.

2015

WELCOME TO ROOM 1 FOR 2015.

I hope that everyone has had a wonderful, sunny holiday and a great start to 2015. This term is a very busy 9 weeks and we will do our best to make the most of this Summer term.

We begin the year with PRAYER and move quickly into Lent which starts with Ash Wednesday in Week 3. Our main strand is “Jesus- My friend”.

English will have an emphasis on DESCRIPTIONS, especially increasing our vocabularies to help us to produce interesting descriptions in our writing and speaking. We will do many fun activities to provide opportunities for our writing.

Our school focus is CITIZENSHIP and in Health and PE we will discover about RELATING TO OTHERS- being good class and school citizens. Making the most of the excitement over the Cricket World Cup, we will also look at the co-operation and understandings that occur to make this a successful event.

In Week 3, we have arranged a visit from The Art Gallery when we will learn the skills of brushwork to obtain effects with paint. We will then continue to create sculptures which we can decorate.

The students will be thrilled to know that Kiwisport will continue on Wednesdays this year. Our PE is Co-operative Play which will involve being active while using skills of respect through sharing and co-operating in groups. Watch also for swimming times, later in the term, in the school newsletter.

The school newsletter will come home every Wednesday so watch for it and read it carefully to ensure that nothing is overlooked in your family!

Reports and interviews are after 6 weeks and then 6 monthly but please ask questions or make a time to discuss any worries that you may have. My email is cathy@stannes.co.nz

Students will bring home a reading book daily, except on Friday when they will bring home their Letterland song book to sing for you at the weekend, along with a library book.

PLEASE remember to read and comment on our class blog.
