Term 1 Newsletter

WELCOME TO ROOM 1 FOR 2016. I hope that everyone has had a wonderful holiday and a great start to 2016. A big welcome to our new families. We hope you will quickly become part of St Anne’s family. This term is a very busy 11 weeks and we will do our best to make the most of this Summer term. We begin the year with PRAYER and move quickly into Lent which starts with Ash Wednesday in Week 2. Our main strand is JESUS. English will have an emphasis on Narratives, especially reading many examples in order to become familiar with these books. We will do many fun activities do provide opportunities for our writing. In Week 1, we have arranged a visit to the Art Gallery and Margaret Mahy playground. We will spent several weeks reading Mahy’s books to discuss these fabulous narratives. The school will be involved with inaka (whitebait) monitoring and learning about helping this species to thrive. More about this will be included in future newsletters. Room 1 and 2 hope to discover where the inaka from Steam Wharf stream (behind our school) go as they head for the sea by visiting the Estuary. More information will follow. Another exciting programme this year will happen every Friday for 30 minutes with KIDS CAN where the students learn values and develop life skills. The students will be thrilled to know that Kiwisport will continue on Wednesdays this year. Watch also for swimming times, later in the term, in the school newsletter. The school newsletter will come home every Wednesday so watch for it and read it carefully to ensure that nothing is overlooked in your family! Reports and interviews are after 6 weeks and then 6 monthly but please ask questions or make a time to discuss any worries/thoughts that you may have. My email is cathy@stannes.co.nz Students will bring home a reading book daily, except on Friday when they will bring home their Letterland song book to sing for you at the weekend, along with a library book. Some maths games are also available in the class to go home if students wish to play them with you after school. PLEASE remember to read and comment on our class blog. stannes101.blogspot.co.nz Thank you for your support. Cathy French
